I'm Adrienne, a Sidney-based artist, writer, and lucky mama of two girls and four delightful felines. I paint delicate, shimmering botanicals on luxurious papers that add freshness and whimsy to any home. I spend hours choosing just the right frame for each piece, and sometimes, the frame itself inspires the painting!
I grew up running wild in the woods of northern British Columbia, surrounded by wild roses, sunsets over the lake, and the solace of the forest. I think you can see a bit of those roots shine through in my paintings. Today, I live by the sea, near lush rainforests and gorgeous gardens in every neighbourhood. At home in my garden here on Vancouver Island, Canada, my brushes capture a whimsical spin on the beauty of nature around me.
Botanical magic on silk and tea paper
A big part of my inspiration comes from the colourful Chinoiserie wallpapers popular in the 18th Century. My unique method of painting on silk and tea paper often begins with hand-dying the fibre, then layering fine details and shading with traditional Chinese brushes and artisanal shimmer paints.
The result is ethereal compositions of birds, butterflies, and vines that seem to dance off the silk. As people often say to me, "Your paintings just make me feel happy!" What more can an artist hope for?
When I'm not painting, my hands are always busy with some creative project, like crocheting ornate crowns, jewelry, and other accessories embellished with beads, crystals, ribbon, and vintage buttons. I live in an adorable cottage in Sidney by the Sea on Vancouver Island, Canada.
